As you look to begin or return to meditation in the New Year, weโ€™re highlighting the most essential tools of practice to help you on your way and set a strong foundation for practice.

Remember, your New Year intentions don’t require perfection, just a place to begin (again).

All Styles of Zafu

This is where it all starts for most meditation practitioners. Zafus are traditional round meditation cushions designed to support comfortable, stable seated meditation. A zafu raises the hips and helps align the spine, making cross-legged or kneeling postures easier to maintain.

We make several styles of zafu cushions in different shapes and sizes, including round, crescent, and even designed for kids. Each one is carefully sewn in the Pacific Northwest and filled with either buckwheat hulls for adjustable firmness or kapok fiber for a lighter, softer feel.

All Styles of Zabuton

The zabuton forms the foundation of your meditation practice and your meditation space.

Zabutons are rectangular meditation cushions placed beneath your zafu cushion or bench. It cushions your knees, ankles, and feet while providing a soft, stable foundation for seated meditation. Paired with a zafu, these two cushions create a traditional meditation cushion set used in Zen centers and home practice spaces around the world.

All Meditation Cushion Sets

Black zafu and zabuton meditation cushion set, 100% cotton fabric, Zen.

The Still Sitting meditation cushion set includes both a zafu and zabuton cushion to align your posture and keep your legs and knees supported.

Our cushions are both comfortable and durable, using high-quality cotton and filling material. We have a beautiful selection of colors and patterns as well, so if youโ€™ve been thinking about that โ€œDesert Lotusโ€ set for yourself, now is the time!

Designed and made here in the Pacific Northwest.

Tilt Chair Cushion

Years in the making, the Tilt Chair Cushion was created for practitioners who prefer or require chair seating, and for anyone looking to support better posture throughout the day. Unlike most seat cushions designed for office ergonomics, this cushion draws from the discipline of seated meditation โ€” where a relaxed yet upright posture is key.

Available in three understated colors (Black, Slate Blue, and Walnut Brown), it blends seamlessly into any setting, whether youโ€™re at home, at the office, or on retreat.

Nomad Bench

We celebrate our founder’s heritage with this unique meditation bench that combines tradition with Scandinavian design and functionality. This Still Sitting original is a collapsible meditation bench that will travel wherever you want to go!

The Nomad Bench is comfortable, portable, and flexible. Using a hammock seat design that easily adjusts to your height, the nomad allows the user to comfortably sit in a kneeling position (seiza). When youโ€™re done, just fold it flat and put it awayโ€ฆor under the tree.

Gomden

Tibetan Seat/Gomden is a firm rectangular zafu with a a comfy quilted top and carrying handle

The Tibetan Seat, known sometimes as a Gomden, is a firm rectangular zafu developed by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and used in Shambala Centers worldwide. We use our 100% cotton duck fabric shell over a firm and comfortable foam block. Our foam is easy on your behind, and firm enough to provide you with the support you need โ€“ we admit it, we think itโ€™s just right!

This cushion does not replace our round or crescent shaped zafus. The Tibetan Seat is used differently. When sitting on it, the meditatorโ€™s feet and ankles touch the zabuton or carpeted floor, but the knees do not. This is particularly helpful for those who arenโ€™t flexible enough to get their knees to the floor.ย

Traditional and Center Meditation Benches

Traditional bench black cushion

Both our traditional and center meditation benches are made here on Vashon Island by a local craftsman. We use Red Oak, which has a warm color and lovely grain. Because of the handmade quality of these benches, while the specifications of each bench are exactly the same, the look of each is unique.

Our benches are made in both a regular size as well as a “Tall” for individuals with longer legs.

Meditation benches are ideal for sitting in a kneeling position (Seiza). We developed the Center Meditation Bench design in 2006 to allow for greater range of leg movement than a Traditional Meditation Bench.
