Description
We love our American Inkin bell. Made by Teido Bill Stephens, a monk friend of ours living in Virginia, it is the only American-made inkin bell that we know of. The spun brass bell, salvaged ipe wood striker, and black walnut handle combine in Shaker simplicity, with the striker fitting elegantly into the handle when the bell is at rest.
Also included is a burlap resting pad for the bell. The 2.7” bell has a clear, lasting tone. Each inkin is individually hand crafted and unique. (Pictured above with our Zen Clappers and Folding Zabuton.)
An inkin bell is traditionally used to begin and end Zen meditation sittings.

This Inkin bell is absolutely gorgeous, both visually and in sound. The tone is clear and pure, and it is sensitive to even light touch. The handcrafted handle with included striker is cleverly made and is beautiful to the eye and to the touch. The handle sits nicely in the hand. When tapped with the striker the bell sounds for a long time, which is lovely. For use-cases like group readings where a shorter chime ring is helpful, I can lightly brush the ringing bell with one finger and it fades the chime gently without muting it too suddenly. This hand bell is a beautiful multi-sensory work of art. 🙏
This bell has a beautiful sound that continues on and on sending all that is good into the world.
