Description
Our Snowflake Obsidian Mala is made from naturally-occurring volcanic glass containing the mineral cristobalite in the form of white ‘snowflake’ crystal patterns. It is typically black with irregular white cloudy shapes (snowflakes).
People value Snowflake Obsidian for its soothing, calming effects alongside obsidian’s other healing properties. It is used as a companion during times of loneliness, and thought to aid in meditation.
Healers have historically used Snowflake Obsidian in a variety of areas including helping with joint pain, circulation, veins, and muscular aches.
Known as japamala, prayer beads, or Buddhist beads, mala beads originated in ancient India. The term “Mala” translates to “garland” in Sanskrit. Using Mala beads in meditation involves repeating a chosen mantra or focusing on the breath with each bead.
Mala beads have a rich history deeply rooted in the religions of India, including Buddhism and Hinduism. They are similar to prayer beads from other world religions as well, like the rosary of Christianity and the misbaha of Islam. Today mala beads don’t necessarily hold a religious connotation. People often wear them as part of meditation or mindfulness practice. People may also wear them simply because of their aesthetic charm.
