Our beautiful African Turquoise mala is one of our newest stone malas. African Turquoise, a unique form of Jasper from Africa, earns the nickname “Stone of Evolution” and actively guides our growth and transformation into the people we’re meant to become.
Practitioners use African Turquoise to help foster positive changes from within and to open their minds to new ideas and possibilities. The stone itself is a lovely mottled teal and black. Our mala is on a stretchy band to fit most size wrists.
Known as japamala, prayer beads, or Buddhist beads, mala beads originated in ancient India. The term “Mala” translates to “garland” in Sanskrit. Using Mala beads in meditation involves repeating a chosen mantra or focusing on the breath with each bead.
Mala beads have a rich history deeply rooted in the religions of India, including Buddhism and Hinduism. They are similar to prayer beads from other world religions as well, like the rosary of Christianity and the misbaha of Islam. Today mala beads don’t necessarily hold a religious connotation. People often wear them as part of meditation or mindfulness practice. People may also wear them simply because of their aesthetic charm.

The stones are beautiful(!), but I wish the fit was tighter around my average-sized female wrist. Maybe 2-3 beads smaller.
