The Seated Kuan Yin is a finely detailed representation of Kuan Yin (Kannon in Japanese or Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit), the Bodhisattva of Great Compassion. Made from cold cast bronze in China, this piece is perfect for meditation rooms, home altars, or contemplative interior spaces. This Kuan Yin statue is in a classic and elegant pose.
She sits on a rocky cliff, a depiction known as Water Moon Kuan Yin. This refers to a chapter of the Avatamsaka Sutra in which Kuan Yin is found in a rocky grotto, in a posture of royal ease, gazing upon the moon in the water, contemplating the illusory nature of existence.
She wears a beautiful dragon-embossed dhoti skirt, silk scarves, jewelry, and a high headdress; her eyes are half closed in meditation. Tints of terra cotta red and blue-green add to the beauty of this piece.
