Description
The Hanging Moon Kuan Yin is a finely detailed representation of Kuan Yin (Kannon in Japanese or Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit), the Bodhisattva of Great Compassion. Designed as a wall-hung devotional or decorative piece, it brings traditional Buddhist iconography into a vertical format suited for small meditation spaces, quiet rooms, or wall art.
The moon hangs from a chain, and tassels hang from below the lotus on which Kuan Yin steps. The crescent moon commonly represents enlightenment and the femininity, while the lotus beneath her feet signifies purity and growth. Her robes are subtly painted and all her features and detailing are very fine.
In this depiction, she sits gracefully on a crescent moon engraved with a portion of the Heart Sutra, one of the most widely known Buddhist texts. In the sutra, Kuan Yin teaches Shariputra the heart of wisdom, emphasizing insight and clarity.
