Description
The rakusu is a small, symbolic version of the Buddhaโs robeโworn as an expression of commitment to the path of practice.
Our Still Sitting Soto Rakusu follows a classic, traditional form. This version is sewn from a 65% polyester / 35% cotton twill, making it our most durable and easy-to-maintain fabric. It has a slightly smoother finish than our 100% cotton rakusu, and is especially well-suited for long-term use, travel, or monastic life. Available in Black, Navy Blue, and Brown each rakusu has a light-colored backing with a border around it on the back (true to Soto style), and is suitable for inscribing a Dharma name and/or verse.
We offer rakusus in five materials: Silk Brocade, Silk, Linen/Cotton, Cotton, and Poly/Cotton. All are comfortable to wear and carefully made to support your practice for years to come.
You may also choose from six rakusu rings, including our Classic Line and Artisan Line. The Classic Line includes a traditional hard plastic ring imported from Japan, as well as two wood rings made locally on Vashon Islandโone in Ash, the other in Black Walnut. Our Artisan Rings are slightly thicker, rounded on one side, and more finely crafted.
The Soto-style rings are about 2โ
”; the Rinzai-style ring measures approximately 2ยพ” in diameter.
Each rakusu is carefully crafted by Still Sitting with attention to detail and qualityโready to wear for years of committed practice.
