The rakusu is a small version of the kesa, so is an abbreviated representation of the Buddha’s original robe.
The Still Sitting Rinzai Rakusu is a classic Rinzai rakusu. It is black, brown, or navy blue on the front, with your choice of the same color on the back, or a white backing suitable for calligraphy. If you would like a white backing on the Rinzai Rakusu please contact us by phone or email referencing your order #.
The white backing on the Rinzai Rakusu extends to the edge of the rakusu, unlike our Soto Rakusu, which has a dark border around a white square on the back.
Each is handmade from your choice of four materials: Silk, Linen, Hem or Poly/Cotton Twill. You can compare the textures of the different fabrics in the detail.
You may also choose from the three different rakusu rings. We have the customary hard plastic rings imported from Japan, as well as two made here on Vashon island by local fine woodworker John Moore – one a light Alaskan Yellow Cedar, the other a dark Black Walnut.
All Still Sitting meditation cushions, benches and Buddhist robes are made in our Vashon Island workshop and in Seattle, Washington.
