Description

Hand-Painted Darumas on 120-Year-Old Brick

Each of these unique Daruma figures is painted by Alex Echivarra onto a piece of brick collected from the beaches of Vashon Island. The bricks themselves carry their own story — made over 120 years ago at Vashon’s brick factory to help rebuild Seattle after the great fire of 1889. Over time, waves and weather have softened and rounded each fragment, leaving a warm, smooth shape that feels good in the hand.

Alex paints each Bodhidharma figure—a symbol of resilience, new beginnings, and awakening—onto these naturally sculpted brick pieces, adding the kanji character for “luck”  to every one. Each Daruma stands upright on a naturally flat edge, making it perfect for a small altar, desk, or special place in your home.

No two are alike. You may choose to purchase a single Daruma, or select a set of three or five to enjoy the variety of faces, forms, and personalities. Every piece is one-of-a-kind.
