This temple drum (or Mokugyo or Moktak) is customarily used to accompany chanting, but serves well as a general percussion instrument as well. It is large enough (5” wide) to give a full, rich sound but small enough to fit on an alter or shelf. Can be played resting on the pillow or held by hand.
The carved fish design is traditional for Zen Buddhist drums, reminding us to be always wakeful, like a fish that doesn’t sleep.
Rich brown color and traditional lacquer.
Yellow and red drum pillow included.
Dimensions:
5" wide x 6" long x 4.75" high
9" mallet with rubber striker
Approx. 12 oz.
