What is a Rin Bell?
A Rin Bell is a traditional Japanese meditation bell. It is typically struck at the beginning or end of meditation, during chanting, or to mark transitions in practice.

How do you use a Rin Bell?
Place the bell on its cushion and gently strike the outer rim with the wooden striker. A light touch is enough to produce a clear, lasting tone.

What sizes are available, and how do they sound?
We offer three sizes:

• Small (2.7″) → Higher pitch, bright, long-lasting tone
• Medium (3.5″) → Balanced, middle tone
• Large (4.2″) → Deeper, more resonant tone

Which size should I choose?

• Choose Small for personal practice or smaller spaces
• Choose Medium for a balanced, versatile sound
• Choose Large for a deeper tone or group settings

How loud are Rin Bells?
Rin Bells can be surprisingly clear and carry well, even with a gentle strike. Volume depends on how firmly you strike the bell.

What materials are used in your Rin Bells?
Our bells are made from spun brass and come with a rosewood striker and a cushion for proper placement and resonance.

Why does the bell sit on a cushion?
The cushion allows the bell to vibrate freely, producing a fuller, longer-lasting tone. It also protects the bell and surface beneath it.

Do I need a stand for the Rin Bell?
A stand is optional. Some people prefer using the bell on its cushion alone, while others enjoy the look and convenience of a lacquered stand. The stand gives the bell more height, which can help with the striking of the bell.

Can I use a metal striker instead of wood?
Yes, though we include a rosewood striker because it produces a warm, balanced tone. Metal strikers can create a brighter, sharper sound.

Where are these bells made?
These Rin Bells are crafted in Japan using traditional methods, with attention to tone, balance, and durability.

Is the sound long-lasting?
Yes. Rin Bells are known for their clear, sustained resonance, which gradually fades and creates a moment of quiet attention.

Can I use a Rin Bell outside of meditation?
Yes. Many people use Rin Bells for mindfulness practice, yoga sessions, or simply to create a moment of pause during the day. We sold quite a few to our local grade school for teachers to use in their classroom.
