Description

Our Crescent Zafu meditation cushion cradles you, and gives your legs support on their way down to your zabuton. We especially like our tapered design because the zafu follows your leg-line right down to the floor. Still Sitting offers Crescent Zafus stuffed with kapok or buckwheat, a variety of colors, and a choice between Standard (non-removable cover) or Deluxe (removable cover).

Our crescent buckwheat zafu is packed a little loosely so it will mold to your form.

We stuff our kapok zafu tight to make it soft yet firm to sit on. These zafus have a zippered closure to allow you to adjust the buckwheat or kapok fill.

Our Deluxe Crescent Zafu has an inner lining made of 100% cotton muslin. Each Deluxe Crescent Zafu cover is machine washable with the exception of the Patterned Zafu which we recommend hand-washing or dry cleaning.

If youโ€™d like, you may add an extra Removable Cover of the same or a different color.

FAQs โ€“ Crescent Zafu Meditation Cushion

What is a crescent zafu, and how is it different from a round zafu?
A crescent zafu is a meditation cushion shaped to follow the natural line of your legs. Unlike a traditional round zafu, which primarily supports the pelvis, the crescent shape provides additional support through the hips and thighs, creating a broader, more stable base for sitting.

Who is the crescent zafu best for?
The crescent zafu is especially helpful for people who want more support in the legs and hips, have difficulty with traditional cross-legged positions, or experience discomfort with a round cushion. Many practitioners find it easier to sit comfortably for longer periods with this shape.

Does the crescent zafu help with legs falling asleep?
Yes, many people find that the crescent design helps reduce pressure on the legs and improves circulation, which can help prevent numbness or โ€œpins and needlesโ€ during meditation .

Can beginners use a crescent zafu?
Absolutely. The crescent zafu is often a great choice for beginners because it offers more forgiving, supportive seating, making it easier to find a stable and upright posture from the start.

What sitting positions work well with a crescent zafu?
The crescent zafu works well with Burmese position (one leg in front of the other), cross-legged sitting, and even modified lotus positions. The curved front allows your legs to rest more naturally and comfortably.

Will this cushion help my posture?
Yes. Like all zafus, the crescent raises your hips above your knees, allowing your pelvis to tilt forward naturally. The added leg support can also help you maintain an upright spine with less effort.

Is the crescent zafu good for people with back pain or stiffness?
Many customers report that the crescent shape provides better support for the lower back and hips, making it easier to sit without strain . That said, comfort is personal, and adjusting the fill or height may help you find the best fit.

What is the difference between buckwheat and kapok filling?

  • Buckwheat hulls are firm and mold to your shape. They can be added or removed to adjust height and firmness.
  • Kapok is a soft, plant-based fiber that is packed more tightly, offering a lighter, springy feel with gentle firmness.

Which filling should I chooseโ€”buckwheat or kapok?
Choose buckwheat if you want a cushion that conforms closely to your body and can be adjusted. Choose kapok if you prefer a lighter cushion with a softer, more buoyant feel.

Can I adjust the firmness of the crescent zafu?
Yes. Both kapok and buckwheat versions have a zippered closure, allowing you to add or remove filling to suit your preferred height and firmness.

What is the difference between Standard and Deluxe versions?

  • Standard: Non-removable cover
  • Deluxe: Removable, machine-washable outer cover with an inner muslin liner (for easy adjustment and cleaning)

How large is the crescent zafu?
The cushion measures approximately 20 inches across, with a height that tapers from about 6 inches to 2 inches, supporting both your seat and legs.

Is the crescent zafu good for long meditation sessions?
Yes. Many practitioners find that the added support through the hips and legs allows them to sit longer with greater comfort and stability .

Is this cushion portable?
Yes. The crescent zafu includes a carrying handle and is easy to move between rooms or take to retreats or group sittings.

  1. I am just beginning a yoga/meditation habit at 61. When I sat on the crescent zafu for the first time, I immediately felt relief. I hadn’t realized how out of alignment my spine/pelvis is. Wish I could sleep sitting up on this cushion…. Well made and well crafted! Thank you Still Sitting!

  2. Perfect shape and high. Good for meditate for long periods.

  3. I used to use a round cushion. This shape is much more conducive to a better posture for me. I also appreciate the high level of craftsmanship.

  4. This is a handcrafted well made product and the crescent zafu is shaped perfectly for me to meditate comfortably. I am unable to sit in lotus or even half lotus, so this helps me be stable with my knees on the ground.
