Description
A Kesa (also known as an Okesa) is a traditional Buddhist ceremonial shawl worn over a koromo, representing Sakyamuni Buddhaโs original patched garment. This form is used by ordained practitioners and lay participants in formal practice settings.
This Kesa is sewn from large patches of black fabric using a durable cotton and linen blend. (Note that the above pictures feature a polycotton that we no longer use.) The material provides structure while remaining breathable for extended wear. It is secured with a cord and metal ring, allowing it to be tied in place over a koromo in the traditional manner.
