This Korean mokugyo drum is a lovely piece of craftsmanship, carved from apricot wood. It comes with a wooden striker. The sound of this instument is crisp and excellent. Unlike the typical Japanese mokugyo, the moktak is made to be hand-held, and comes with a generous hand grip. Made with beautiful apricot wood.
The Moktak and mokugyo are known as a Fish Drums, for they are roughly in the shape of a fish. It is customarily used to keep time for chanting, and reminds practitioners to be wakeful during their recitation. A fish never sleeps! Our Moktak is made by a craftswoman in Korea.
